This Lebanese origin delight is definitely unique and tackles a different set of taste buds you never knew you had. The mix of sweet “debes” molasses instead of sugar takes this dessert to a whole alternative level of flavor.
To make this dessert you need:
- 2 Cups Semolina Flour
- 1 ½ Flour
- Baking Powder
- Aniseed Powder
- 1 Cup Oil
- 1 Cup Kharoub Molasses (I guess you can substitute that for date/grape molasses to which ever you enjoy more)
- 1 Cup Milk/ Water
- 1tbsp Tahini
- Handful of sesame seeds (optional)
Preheat your oven to 180 degrees. Mix the semolina, flour, aniseed powder and baking powder in a bowl. Add the oil, molasses and milk till they are quite well combined. Grease your pan with tahini and pour the batter in and spread it evenly (center to edges). Bake it for 30 min or until the toothpick comes out clean. Allow it to cool fully before you cut into squares and serve with tea.
